Beyond the colour wheel talk – Minotti London – 2nd May 2019
One of the things I love about colour is the way we relate, experience and use it, is continually evolving.
I’ve noticed in particular over the past year or so a huge increase in the conversations, discussions and debates at design shows, exhibitions and in the media on colour. And if you’ve been following my blogs, articles and attended any of my talks over the years, you’ll know that I’ve been advocating how colour has a life way beyond the colour wheel.
So when Minotti London (luxury Italian lifestyle brand) asked me if I would be one of their guest speakers for their Beyond the Colour Wheel panel, it was like colourful music to my ears.
For this colour discussion, they have gathered some really fantastic speakers, one I’ve met and the other two I’m really excited to meet in person and hear what they have to say on their specialty area of colour. And I’ll be sharing my views on applied colour psychology and how we are ready to embrace and use colour beyond solely colour wheel application.

London Transport Museum – Love Your Line – Colouring in the Lines talk
I’ve always been someone who loves travelling. As an Australian coming to London, my first experiences of the tube I remember well. I was in awe of how millions of people on a daily basis manage to navigate their way around this seemingly complex underground system. And I remember thinking how do they do this? When I spotted the huge colour coded tube map up on the station wall, I knew – find the line I needed to go on and just follow the colour.
Little did I know 15 years later I would be asked by London Transport Museum to give a talk on colour for their Friday Late Colour event ‘How we relate to colour in branding’.
I’m delighted they have asked me again for this month’s Love Your Line weekend.
colour talk – colour in branding & advertising
I’m delighted to be asked to speak at the Colour Collective UK’s October event Colour in Branding & Advertising – Palette to poster.
The Colour Collective UK is made up of a fabulous group of colour lovers and devotees based in the north of England. They are great at seeking out and bringing together an eclectic mix of design and industry people from different backgrounds that always makes for a really interesting series of thought provoking talks.
They have invited three speakers for their October event. They are local fashion icons Michael Owen who will be talking about how he harnessed the power of a single colour to tell his brand story and Mandy Barker discussing why she had to navigate the political aspects of pink for a recent client project. I’m really looking forward to hearing their experiences. And I’ll be sharing how my clients use colour to influence consumer decisions, and why.
Introducing… the Wellbeing Colour Wheel Tool and Framework
Last week I spent three days at Clerkenwell Design Week. Now into its 9th year, it’s definitely one of the highlights on the global design calendar.
It’s also one of my favourites as it has a real festival feel to it and for me this year was even more exciting because I officially launched my new Wellbeing Colour Wheel in collaboration with the prestigious 100-year-old flooring brand, Altro, where I selected colours from their current product range based around the concept of Creating mindful interiors for wellbeing spaces – going beyond the grey.

100% Design colour talks programme in collaboration with Karen Haller
How exciting, London Design Week is almost upon us. When London immerses itself in all things design, attracting creative minds from around the world.
I’ve been busy working behind the scenes on the 100% Design colour talks programme. I can’t believe it was back in March, by a chance meeting at another colour event (Sean Rogg’s founder of The Waldorf Project with his sensory and intriguing Chapter Two: ‘Colour’) when I met the lovely Claire Barrett from Caro Communications.

The colour wheel is just the tip of the iceberg
Colour is one of those amazing phenomenons that’s fascinated man for centuries. So much so there’s specialist colour scientists, academics and researchers around the world coming up with amazing new colour theories and findings all the time.
Interestingly, the new ways of working with colour coming out of the ongoing research aren’t widely known within the design industries. It’s as if we’re stuck in a colour wheel rut and haven’t moved on. But this is definitely changing.

karen haller at clerkenwell design week 2014
Dorset based Designworks Tiles recently joined the vibrant Clerkenwell creative design community. To celebrate their Clerkenwell debut, they are putting on an exciting series of events during this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week at their showroom.
I’m very pleased to be partnering with Designworks Tiles this year giving two talks as part of the festival’s programmed series of talks – ‘What’s Wrong With White?’ and ‘Living in Full Colour’.
the psychological effects of colour in architecture
Every May in London, designers, architects look forward to attending the many talks, events and seeing the latest innovations during Clerkenwell Design Week. I’m very honoured to be asked back to give two talks, this time at the recently opened Designworks Tiles showroom. My two talks will be on ‘What’s wrong with white’ and ‘Living in Full Colour’.
