world’s most unusual hotels… jules’ undersea lodge

In the fifth of my world’s most unusual hotels series, I’m featuring the Jules’s Undersea Lodge, key Largo, Florida.

I’m an avid scuba diver and feel lucky to have dived in some of the world’s most beautiful locations. So you can imagine my delight when I came across this hotel.

Originally designed as a mobile undersea habitat carrying a full range of subsea scientific equipment, the former research lab was refitted and refurbished in the early 1980’s and opened to the public.

Entry into the hotel is 21 feet below water so not ideal for those with a fear of water or what lies beneath…

Imagine diving 21 feet to get to your hotel entrance.

The capsule is 600-square-foot with two-bedrooms and its ambient pressure enables their guests to eat, sleep and live underwater, just like an “Aquanaut”.

Whilst the interiors, as you’ll see in the images below are a retro throw back to the 80’s, this is all about experiencing living underwater and the surreal view.  Where else can you sit by the window and see all matter of sea life swimming past…

Chilling in the pod with all the mod cons retro style.

Saw the light on, thought I'd drop in!

This puts a whole new meaning to room service.

Truely one of the most remote hotels and ideal for those who want to get away from it all. It’s an experience you’re either going to love or loathe.  Personally I’ve added this to my bucket list!

It’s a very cool concept but I don’t know how I feel about the retro look

Most people only stay for a day or two which I guess most of the time would be spent looking out the window 😉

This looks glorious – going on my bucket list too!
